Kungälv County now has one website for all its businesses; editors can easily work with content at a decentralized level, and manage to keep the content of the website fully accessible.
Kungälv County needed help structuring information and implementing a content management system into one website for all its businesses. And this had to be done according to the Guidelines for the 24-hour web (Vägledningen 24-timmarswebben).
As in many large, widespread organizations, it was a challenge to get all the stakeholders involved in the project and to make the web editors understand that they should write accessibly and focus on the needs of the citizens instead of the needs of the local authority.
After considering the objectives in the implementation project and after recommendations from the partner, Kungälv County chose EPiServer as their content management tool. EPiServer provided a powerful administrative tool, making it possible to have full control of decentralized publication. It was also a requirement that the tool could be made accessible, and this could be realized by reconstructing page templates and page types based on the basic configuration of EPiServer's standard templates.
"When we were planning our new website, it became obvious to us that we needed a new content management tool. Our web consultancy NetRelations selected EPiServer and presented it as the strongest option. It worked out to be great and our objectives concerning usability for editors have now been fulfilled. An added bonus was that NetRelations helped us make our website one of the few accessible websites currently available in the Swedish public sector. We hadn't actively planned this, but by choosing NetRelations as partner, it was part of the deal!"
The first version of Kungälv County website was launched without any extra modules. Focus was instead on easy administration and only a few of the templates were made available for editors. EPiServer's Editor was modified and a function was added that filtered and cleaned up HTML code, so that the Web site could be kept as accessible as possible.
Implementation was carried out according NetRelations' tried and tested methods, which made it possible for Kungälv County to have full control of the project. The method also included usability tests and quality checks in the code to check that the website was constructed according to the Guidelines for the 24-hour web.
